University High School

Auerbach Pollock Friedlander collaborated with SMWM Architects (now Perkins + Will) to renovate University High School’s multi-purpose room into a fully functional theatre. University High School is a premier private institution with a strong emphasis on the arts. Completed within seven months, in order to accommodate the school semester, the comprehensive renovation of the school’s multi-purpose room into a 400-seat, state-of-the-art multi-use auditorium required the development of an expansive stage, raked seating with excellent sightlines and ADA accessibility.

The revamp of the theatrical systems included advanced light control, audio-video and projection systems. A Juliet balcony was developed out of an architectural design concept to provide ADA access to the stage. A technical mezzanine, theatrical lighting catwalks, optimal acoustic design, cutting-edge audio and visual technologies and digital and computer capabilities were incorporated into the venue. The theatre technology coupled with the new interior architecture created an intimate and highly functional performance environment.
