The Pershing Square Signature Center

Founded in 1991 with a commitment to producing the work of a single playwright in each season, Signature Theatre Company’s Signature Centeris the product of ten years of planning and studies. Auerbach Pollock Friedlander provided audio-video systems and theatre consulting for the project in collaboration with the design architects, Gehry Partners and architect of record, H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture.

By implementing video display and technical hardware solutions, the firm realized the creative vision of the architectural team, as well as Signature Theatre’s digital environment consultant, POP, and signage consultant, Object Collective; specifying video displays, network controls, computer media players and required wiring infrastructure, with system software and content developed by POP.

The centerpiece of the lobby digital experience are three large, 85” plasma touchscreen displays mounted in a vertical orientation. These interactive displays create an engaging environment, allowing patrons to surf the Signature Theatre website, research information regarding past performance history and, via cameras mounted beside the display, instantly upload digital photos of themselves. Electronic identification panels located near each theatre’s entrance provide information about, and insight into, the current production within that space.

Mounted vertically within an environmental enclosure and integrated with the outdoor marquee structural columns, the exterior display system features five 70” plasma screens, which are used to display performance schedules and information regarding Signature’s current and upcoming performances.
