Space Center Houston

Space Center Houston, NASA Visitors Center

This 180,000-square-foot building serves as the visitors center for NASA’s Johnson Space Center. This large facility has a very impressive program of events and also displays the nation’s largest collection of historic space artifacts. Off to the side of Space Center Plaza is the five-story Space Center Theater, the Destiny Theater and “Blast Off,” a live format theater that shares direct communication between Houston Mission Control and the active space shuttle crews. It also has an interactive exhibit area.

Outside of the Destiny Theater is a walk-through exhibit area which displays historic space artifacts related to the manned space program, moon rock samples and a diorama of a simulated moonscape. Both the exhibit lighting and the architectural lighting for all public spaces of this dramatic project were by designed by Auerbach Glasow.
