San Francisco Day School

Auerbach Pollock Friedlander provided theatre consulting for the renovation of the multi-purpose room at the San Francisco Day School into a convertible gymnasium to accommodate theatrical performances, programs and assemblies for audiences up to 400.

The design solution provided by the firm met many challenges. The area was not available for a fixed, dedicated stage and time and labor for changeover from sports to performance was limited. To maximize sightlines and minimize labor a retractable seating system was configured in conjunction with a stage platform system designed to raise and store against the wall of the gym. Additionally, the theatrical lighting and sound systems was designed for minimum labor and maximum function.
