Presidio of San Francisco, William Penn Mott Jr. Visitor Center
Originally an historic military guardhouse and prison, the transformed William Penn Mott Jr. Visitor Center houses educational exhibits about the 1,491-acre Presidio, the U.S. National Park where it resides.
Auerbach Glasow provided architectural lighting design services for the Visitor Center. The most current LED lighting technology and energy efficiency are key components of the lighting design.
The building’s historic features were incorporated into the two-room design. Exhibits include a large scale model of the park and a “Voices of the Presidio” display.
An estimated 5 million people visit the Presidio annually. The William Penn Mott Jr. Visitor Center is expected to achieve LEED Gold status.
