In 2004, Auerbach Pollock Friedlander was contacted by BCA Architects to help redesign a proposed 450-seat theatre and support facilities that had been completely documented by others, yet bid without success two times. Working on this fast-tracked process, Auerbach Pollock Friedlander was able to provide a theatre solution that met the district’s stated goals without compromise and simplified organizational and functional requirements through a full-scope theatre consulting effort. The new performing arts center and 1,600-seat gymnasium project was rebid successfully within a year. Auerbach Pollock Friedlander’s consulting work included the planning and design of the auditorium, seating, and production systems including rigging, theatrical lighting, sound systems, an orchestra pit filler and a custom orchestra shell; making the venue the most physically advanced, multi-use theatre in Santa Cruz County.

The project is especially unique in that it provides exceptional training facilities that are closely coordinated with those at Cabrillo College and at the University of California, Santa Cruz, each with comprehensive theatre facilities that are also Auerbach Pollock Friedlander projects.
