Coordinating the multitude of required elements closely with Carl Zeiss personnel was imperative to the success of the new space, including the iconic Mark IX Universarium and the custom precision lift on which the Universarium is deployed.

Creating a celestial connection with the audience was the key consideration, challenging Apeiro Design to hide the technology so the heavens would not be overshadowed by the technology. Wireless control of all systems allows the presenter to interact with audience members under a striking replica of the LA night sky.

The original quadraphonic sound system was replaced by a 30-channel, individually addressable loudspeakers system which allows the playback systems to create virtual sound sources at any point in the dome. Catwalks integrated with the dome permit easy access to technical areas, with a continuous array of strip lights on multiple dimmed control circuits allowing the light effect to move around the horizon or fill the dome. The dome is also cross light with arrays of theatrical fresnels that provided a smooth wash of light thus making the dome invisible and creating space in conjunction with the star projections. All of the show systems interface with sophisticated computer controls for precision deployment, including lighting, audio, Universarium lift and laser the projection system.
