Subsequently, BAM moved forward with a range of upgrades culminating with the BAM STRONG initiative that completed in 2020. Upgrades to the Harvey include stage platform replacement, new audience circulation with replacement of theatre seating and the installation of the Steinberg Screen.

The seating project began with BAM’s need to replace the seats which were no longer serviceable. After a review of the audience circulation paths and ADA compliance in collaboration with MGA, the scope of the project grew. The front section of orchestra seating and the entire stage have been replaced with modular platforms. Custom seats were designed to match the appearance of the earlier seating renovation.

BAM also decided to augment their existing cinema offerings by adding this capability to the Harvey. Apeiro Design worked with the design team to realize this vision with a unique system. The 35’-wide screen is rigged on a truss and flown downstage of the proscenium so it does not conflict with production work in the flytower. The screen is stored under the stage floor when not in use. The whole changeover takes about two hours. The projector is located in a new projection room on the main floor, finished to match the distressed look of the theatre.
