SFJazz Center
San Francisco, California

The SFJazz Center is the first stand-alone facility on the West Coast dedicated to jazz and one of only two in the United States. The venue gives a permanent home to the 28 year old organization that has been putting on shows and the San Francisco Jazz Festival in rented facilities throughout the city. Located in Hayes Valley near the theatre district, the SFJazz Center is a modern, three story building made of glass, steel and concrete with lobbies that are visible from the street. Auerbach Pollock Friedlander provided theatre and audio-video consulting for the study and design of the 650-seat performance hall, 80-seat ensemble room/rehearsal space, digital learning lab, practice rooms, offices, retail store and café.

The 650-seat performance hall was designed with intimacy in mind with steeply raked seating. The organization wanted the hall to feel like a New York jazz club.

The 80-seat ensemble room/rehearsal space will be used for smaller performances, rehearsals, classes and lectures.

Anticipated to achieve LEED Gold certification
