AUERBACH GLASOW
COMPLETES ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING DESIGN
ON ZUMANITY, ANOTHER SIDE OF CIRQUE DU SOLEIL
AT THE NEW YORK NEW YORK HOTEL AND CASINO,
LAS VEGAS
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 15, 2003) AUERBACH GLASOW, Architectural Lighting Design and Consulting, announces the completion of their work on the newly renovated New York New York Hotel Casino Theatre. This newly facility is now the home of Zumanity, Another Side of Cirque du Soleil.
The firm provided architectural lighting design services for the lobby retail space and audience chamber in collaboration with Marnell Corrao Associates, the MGM/Mirage Design Group and Cirque du Soleil.
The space, formerly housing the New York New York Theatre, was stripped back to its shell and a completely new theatre and lobby environment was created in its place. Lighting for this exciting new environment involved close collaboration with the Cirque du Soleil creative design team and the Marnell Corrao Associates interior designers.
AUERBACH GLASOW contributed both traditional lighting approaches and special lighting effects for the unusual organic theme of the Lobby space. Custom glowing sconces embedded in the side walls and undulating light from overhead provide both atmosphere and a sense of mystery. At the back bars, changing colored light accents the display, energizing these social gathering points. The retail space features floating lightweight rails, dotted with glowing points of light.
The unique shape of the audience chamber and the communal nature of some seating elements prompted a warm and inviting lighting design, intended to flatter and complement audience members. Traditional recessed fixtures are supplemented by decorative elements, including sconces and glowing color accents. White LED's are used to light the aisleways, utilizing the latest technology for this critical task. A small special performance area near the back of the lower seating area glows with special theatrical fixtures to light the performers.
