Firm Profile

Auerbach Glasow French, Architectural Lighting Design and Consulting, and Auerbach Pollock Friedlander, Performing Arts/Media Facilities Planning and Design, is one of the leading architectural lighting, theatre and media facilities consulting firms in practice today. Originally founded by S. Leonard Auerbach in 1972, the firm has developed over the past 35 years from a small, regional entity to a national firm with an extensive portfolio of award-winning projects at home and abroad.

Auerbach Glasow French, Architectural Lighting Design and Consulting, provides expertise in all aspects of lighting design, from project design and management to the design of custom decorative luminaires, optics and control systems. The firm has designed architectural lighting for a wide range of project types including exhibits, museums, commercial attractions, public spaces, corporate offices, theaters, large institutional projects, retail, and hospitality.

We are well versed on the issues of sustainable design and energy efficiency. Our lighting designs incorporate the most stringent energy requirements including California Title 24, ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1, IECC standards, and the US Green Building Council LEED rating system. The diverse and extensive practical experience of our staff offers imaginative design solutions supported by a strong technical foundation.

Our experience with daylighting enables us to constructively collaborate with the architectural team. Whether we are required to provide sun angle/shadow studies, shading or glazing information or work with a specialty daylighting consultant, our lighting expertise will contribute to the development of an overall daylighting strategy.

Auerbach Pollock Friedlander, Performing Arts/Media Facilities Planning and Design, combines a demonstrated background in programming, planning and architectural design disciplines with hands-on experience in theatre engineering, theatre design, media arts, sound and video communications, production management, technical direction and scenography. Services range from initial planning and programming through the design and documentation of all theatrical systems including sound, video and communications to the management and construction administration of each project. Auerbach Pollock Friedlander’s projects include opera houses, professional repertory theatres, concert halls, performing arts training facilities, museums, planetariums, popular entertainment venues in theme parks, casinos, cruise ships and night clubs.

The formal education, professional training, and broad experience of our senior staff of consultants and designers encompass all of the disciplines necessary to solve specialized architectural design problems ranging from traditional theatres to the most unique commercial entertainment venues. We are experienced in the diverse, yet interrelated fields of theatre design and technology and are equipped to work using traditional means of project delivery or the more complex methods of fast-tracking and design-build documentation and construction administration.

The depth and breadth of our experience is shown by a portfolio of innovative solutions, award-winning designs and an international reputation of being on time and within budget. Whether we have been selected to join the design team by the owner/user directly, or by the architect, no project has proven to be beyond our capability.

We are proud of our record of effective collaboration with owners/users, architects, acousticians, show producers, technicians and performers individually and collectively. The result is a close, productive working relationship with every client.
