STEVEN FRIEDLANDER, ASTC
Steven Friedlander’s background in theatre production and design and his theatre consulting experience are brought together in his role as the principal in charge of the New York office of Auerbach Pollock Friedlander. Mr. Friedlander’s theatre consulting experience includes a wide range of projects in the U.S. and Europe.
Mr. Friedlander is currently leading the firm’s work on new facilities for the Signature Theatre Company at the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan, theatrical systems upgrades at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Virginia Beach Performing Arts Center, the Department of Theatre and Department of Visual Arts at Columbus State University and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s new Symphony Center.
His previous work with Auerbach Pollock Friedlander includes programming, planning and design of a variety of the firm’s new construction and restoration projects, such as Carnegie Hall, Judy and Arthur Zankel Hall; Emerson College’s award-winning restoration of the Cutler Majestic Theatre and new Tufte Performance and Production Center; the Borgata Casino; the Philadelphia Academy of Music; lighting for the Kamikaze Experience exhibit at the Intrepid Air, Space and Sea Museum in New York; Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Convention Center; the restoration of the Trenton War Memorial; Hard Rock Cafés in Memphis and New York and Hard Rock Live! in Orlando.
Prior to joining Auerbach Pollock Friedlander, Mr. Friedlander operated SFA, Inc., his own theatre consulting firm in New York. The collaboration between the two firms on the design of a showroom for Celebrity Cruise Lines marked the beginning of the relationship which lead to Mr. Friedlander's role as the principal in charge of Auerbach + Associates' New York office in 1996.
Before joining the theatre consulting profession, Mr. Friedlander spent more than twenty years as a lighting designer and production manager, working extensively with ballet, opera and theatre companies nationally and internationally.
Mr. Friedlander has lectured for a variety of organizations including the British Society of Theatre Consultants and at Yale University’s School of Drama. He received a B.F.A. in Technical Theatre and Lighting Design from Boston University's College of Fine Arts, where he now serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board.
